Best Manga artists

Kentaro Miura (Berserk) leads the Manga artists ranking with 1354 ELO points over 430 duels, ahead of Yusuke Murata (OPM/Eyeshield 21) and Takehiko Inoue (Slam Dunk/Vagabond).

The top three artists cluster tightly, separated by just 47 ELO points between first and third place. Kentaro Miura edges ahead with a 70% win rate, while both Yusuke Murata at 1332 ELO and Takehiko Inoue at 1307 ELO share identical 66% win rates. The sharpest break appears between ranks 4 and 5, where 59 ELO points separate Makoto Yukimura (Vinland Saga) from Boichi (Sun-Ken Rock/Dr. Stone). At the bottom of the ranking, Naoki Urasawa (Pluto/Monster) and Yukito Kishiro (Battle Angel Alita) sit at 1044 and 1026 ELO respectively, suggesting the community reserves its highest marks for artists known for intricate, detailed linework over those with more economical styles.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
