TopList

A TopList is a ranking question and the list of contenders that answer it. "Who is the best One Piece character?" is a TopList; its contenders are the characters. The word never changes: one TopList, several TopList. Every TopList has a play page and, from 30 games onwards, a world ranking.

Contender

A contender is an item you can rank in a TopList: a character, a film, a song, a crisp flavour. The same contender can appear in several TopList, and its page gathers all of its placements. The word is used as is, with no translated form.

Duel

A duel is a vote between two contenders: which of the two do you prefer? It is the basic unit of VAINKEURZ. Every duel updates the ELO score of both contenders. 13,575,422 duels have been voted so far.

Game

A game is a series of duels played by one person on a TopList, until they get their personal ranking. It lasts two to three minutes. A TopList becomes "ranked" from 30 games onwards.

Personal ranking

Your personal ranking is the order of the contenders you get at the end of your game, from your favourite down to the last. It can be shared as an image and compared with the world ranking.

World ranking

The world ranking is the order of a TopList's contenders according to the votes of every player, sorted by ELO score. It is public, dated, recalculated after every duel and published from 30 games onwards. It is the page that search engines and AI cite. The ELO rating explained

ELO score

The ELO score is the number that measures a contender's strength in a TopList: it rises when it wins a duel, falls when it loses one, and moves more when the result is unexpected. The world ranking is the contenders sorted by ELO score.

Win rate

The win rate is the share of duels a contender has won. It complements the ELO score: a contender can have a good win rate with few duels, and so a score that is still low.

Hub

A hub is a page that gathers every TopList in a category (video games) or a subject (One Piece). Hubs are how you explore the catalogue. Explore

Category and subject

A category is one of the site's 17 main areas (anime and manga, video games, film, music, sport, food…). A subject is a narrower set within a category: Naruto in anime and manga, Fortnite in video games.

Keurz

Keurz are the points you earn by playing, creating TopList and inviting friends. They unlock trophies and perks in the app.

Trophy

A trophy rewards a notable action: your first validated TopList, a milestone of cumulated votes, a full week of play. Trophies are visible on your profile.

Streamer

On VAINKEURZ, a streamer is a Twitch channel that plays TopList live with its chat. Its page gathers the TopList played and their rankings. Play a TopList live on Twitch
