Best steam games 2023

112 ELO points separate Baldur's Gate 3 from Starfield at the top of the 20 Years of Steam – 2023 ranking, after 328 duels.

The gap between first and second place is the sharpest in this ranking, with Baldur's Gate 3 dominating at 1444 ELO points while Starfield trails at 1332. Sons Of The Forest holds third with 1275 points, edging out DREDGE by 14 points. The top of the ranking delivers no shock: Baldur's Gate 3 wins 95% of its duels, cementing its position as the year's standout release. Further down, the bottom three contenders reveal a different story. Kerbal Space Program 2 sits at 1013 ELO with a 33% win rate, reflecting a troubled launch that divided the community. Starship Troopers: Extermination and BattleBit Remastered occupy the ranks just above, each struggling to gain traction despite their distinct approaches to multiplayer action.

This ranking draws from 328 duels submitted by 13 players across 12 contenders, updated on 12 October 2026. The scale of the vote remains modest, but the preferences are clear: story-driven depth and polished mechanics dominate over experimental or niche releases. Whether you lean toward Baldur's Gate 3's narrative ambition or prefer the sandbox survival of Sons Of The Forest, the ranking invites you to cast your own duels and shift the standings.

How this ranking is computed

Every duel won lifts a contender and every loss drops them, by an amount that depends on the opponent's strength: beating the leader is worth more than beating the last. It is an ELO, the same principle as in chess. Duels are not drawn at random — an adaptive entropy sort puts the least predictable match-ups first, which settles the ranking far faster than a full round robin. A worldwide ranking is only published past 30 completed plays. Known limit: a contender who has faced few opponents keeps an approximate score, and the bottom of the table moves more than the podium.
